MATCH REPORT J2: FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON
UE Cornellà claimed their first three points of the season with a 3-1 victory over Cerdanyola FC at the Estadi Nou Municipal de Cornellà on matchday two of Group 5 in the Tercera RFEF. The Greens came out determined to dominate the game and were rewarded early on, with Pau López putting the hosts ahead in the 2nd minute with a well-struck effort from outside the box. Cornellà maintained the initiative and control for much of the first half, but Cerdanyola levelled the score in the 37th minute through Fares, sending the teams into the break level at 1-1.
After the restart, Cornellà regained control and quickly restored their lead. In the 49th minute, captain Marc Fernández made it 2-1 with a superb strike from outside the box, finding the bottom left corner of Álvaro’s goal. The Cerdanyola goalkeeper got a touch to the ball but could not prevent it from finding the net. The Greens continued to dictate the tempo, controlling the game and looking for a third as Cerdanyola were forced to push forward in search of an equaliser.
Cornellà’s persistence paid off in the 61st minute. From a corner, Toni Paredes reacted quickest to a rebound from Álvaro inside the box, pouncing on the loose ball and firing it into the back of the net to make it 3-1. The Greens managed their advantage confidently until the final whistle to secure a deserved victory after a game in which they were the better side for much of the 90 minutes. Three important points as Cornellà opened their winning account on matchday two.
