MATCH REPORT J4: DRAW IN MOLLERUSSA
UE Cornellà picked up another point away from the Nou Municipal after drawing 1-1 against CFJ Mollerussa in a game in which the Greens had to come from behind after the home side took the lead. Alpha put the Pla d’Urgell side ahead in the second half, but Héctor Tejada restored parity and Cornellà continued searching until the final whistle for a goal that would have sent them home with all three points.
The game began with Cornellà taking control. Senabre’s side took possession from the opening stages and looked to establish themselves in the opposition half, moving the ball patiently against a well-organised Mollerussa side determined to close down the spaces. The possession belonged to the Greens, but finding the final pass became the first obstacle in a morning that demanded patience.
As the minutes went by, the home side began to find their moments too. Mollerussa remained solid, protected their penalty area well and managed to limit Cornellà’s attacking moves. The visitors controlled the game, but struggled to turn that dominance into clear-cut chances. Whenever they managed to find a way through towards goal, Pepo Campanera was there to keep the home side in the game and preserve the deadlock before half-time.
The 0-0 scoreline at the break left everything open.
And the second half changed the picture.
Mollerussa found the breakthrough in the 56th minute. A ball played in behind the defence left Alpha with the chance to finish and, despite the assistant referee initially raising his flag for a possible offside, play continued and the home forward eventually beat the defence to put Mollerussa 1-0 ahead.
The setback did not make Cornellà retreat. The Greens stepped forward and threw themselves into the search for a response, one that would eventually arrive. Mollerussa held firm for several minutes, but in the 68th minute, following a corner, Héctor Tejada rose to meet the ball and level the game. At 1-1, everything was open once again.
From that moment on, Cornellà continued to grow into the game.
The final minutes belonged to the Greens. Senabre’s side took control, pushed further forward and relentlessly searched for a comeback that ultimately never arrived. And during that final stretch came one of the day’s main talking points: the debut of Pablo Servetti. The forward, introduced with half an hour remaining, had the opportunity to change the course of the game with his head, in this case.
Servetti had two particularly clear headed chances in the closing stages. Two opportunities that could have turned his first appearance in a Cornellà shirt into a perfect debut, but neither found the back of the net.
Mollerussa withstood the final pressure and the scoreline remained unchanged until the final whistle.
