MATCHDAY 6 REPORT: A LAST-GASP BLOW AT LA POBLA DE MAFUMET

UE Cornellà came away empty-handed from their visit to La Pobla de Mafumet after suffering a 1-0 defeat in a match decided in stoppage time. The Greens competed throughout a demanding encounter, but Joan Martínez’s 91st-minute goal ultimately tipped the balance in favour of the home side. It was a cruel ending for Cornellà, who also had to play the closing stages with ten men following Bruno Lorente’s dismissal.

The match began with both teams looking to take control of the game. Managed by Ignasi Senabre, Cornellà took to the Municipal de la Pobla de Mafumet with the intention of imposing their style of play and finding space against opponents who demonstrated their competitive edge from the outset. The first half was closely contested, with every challenge and every loose ball taking on particular importance.

La Pobla tried to make the most of their home advantage and establish a stronger presence, while the Greens looked for opportunities to take the lead, with clear chances for Marc Fernández and Toni Paredes. However, neither side managed to find the net before half-time, leaving everything to play for after the break.

The 0-0 scoreline at half-time reflected the balance between the two sides. But the closing stages completely changed the course of the match.

After the restart, the contest remained fiercely competitive, with both teams aware that the smallest detail could prove decisive. Cornellà tried to stay organised and compete in every situation, but the final minutes became a real test of resilience for the visitors.

In the 74th minute, Bruno Lorente received his second yellow card and left the Greens with ten players.

Despite the setback, Cornellà continued to hold firm and tried to preserve the draw as the match became increasingly demanding. Just when it seemed that the points would be shared, the decisive blow arrived.

In the 91st minute, Joan Martínez found the net to put La Pobla de Mafumet 1-0 ahead. A last-gasp goal that broke the deadlock and dealt a painful blow to Cornellà.

Ignasi Senabre’s side had no time left to respond, and the score remained unchanged, despite Marc Fernández striking the crossbar with a free-kick. La Pobla de Mafumet claimed all three points, while the Greens returned home empty-handed after a match marked by the dismissal and a particularly painful ending.

UE Cornellà must now turn their attention to their next league fixture against CF Peralada, with the aim of getting back to earning points and returning to winning ways in front of their home supporters.
